On July 13, 2022, we submitted comments on EPA’s proposed rule Asbestos Part 1: Chrysotile Asbestos: Regulation of Certain Conditions of Use Under Section 6(a) of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Asbestos is a heat-resistant mineral that can be woven into fabrics and is used in fire-resistant and insulating materials. Asbestos, which is unsafe even at very low concentrations, can be found in insulation, drywall, ceiling and floor tiles, cement, paint, and more, and can cause lung cancer mesothelioma, asbestosis, and a host of other cancerous and noncancerous diseases. We are very supportive of the proposed Asbestos Part 1 Rule and urge EPA to finalize this rule as quickly as possible.
