Highlights

  • EPN submitted comments on the New Source Performance Standards for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions from Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Power Plants.

  • EPN submitted comments on proposed amendments to the New Source Performance Standards and to the National Emission Standards of Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) (more commonly referred to as the Hazardous Organic NESHAP or “HON”) for the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturing Industry (SOCMI), and the NESHAP applying to the Group I and II Polymers and Resins Industries.

  • EPN submitted comments on the proposed federal baseline water quality standards for Indian reservations and submitted comments on EPA’s draft human health risk assessment for the registration review of dimethyl tetrachlorophthalate (DCPA), an herbicide used on weeds.

  • EPN wrote a letter to the National Drinking Water Advisory Council regarding the PFAS national drinking water rule and sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works regarding draft PFAS legislation.

EPN’s Work on Air

EPN Comments on EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Power Plants

On August 8, 2023, EPN submitted comments on EPA’s New Source Performance Standards for GHG Emissions from Fossil Fuel-Fired Electric Generating Power Plants. EPN believes EPA’s proposal for effecting reduced CO2 emissions from the U.S. fossil-fuel power sector provides a sensible path forward in helping to address the challenge of climate change, and we provided several suggestions that could strengthen the rule.

EPN Comments on Proposed Amendments to HON and the Polymers and Resins NESHAP

On July 7, 2023, EPN submitted comments on proposed amendments to the New Source Performance Standards and to the Hazardous Organic NESHAP or “HON” for the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturing Industry (SOCMI), and the NESHAP applying to the Group I and II Polymers and Resins Industries. We support these actions and urge EPA to continue to find ways to further reduce the risks from these facilities.

EPN Writes Letter to National Drinking Water Advisory Council re: PFAS Water Rule

On August 17, 2023, EPN sent a letter to the National Drinking Water Advisory Council (NDWAC), EPA Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water, regarding the proposed PFAS national drinking water rule. EPN believes NDWAC should be better informed on the health risks posed by various PFAS chemicals when advising EPA on how best to regulate them in the nation's public water systems.

EPN Submits Letter to Congress on Draft PFAS Legislation

On July 3, 2023, EPN submitted a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works regarding the draft PFAS legislation. We have concerns regarding the limited scope of PFAS addressed as well as liability exemptions for certain PFAS industry categories under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
