EPN Comments on the Draft Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment for Formaldehyde and Paraformaldehyde

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, EPN submitted comments on the draft human health and ecological risk assessment for formaldehyde and paraformaldehyde, a part of the pesticide registration review process for formaldehyde. Certain products that contain formaldehyde are considered pesticides because they are used to control microorganisms and other pests. We are concerned that human health risks may be underestimated and that non-pesticidal sources may not be fully accounted for. We suggested that EPA assess the risk of certain exempted uses of formaldehyde. We also suggested that EPA be prepared to significantly revise the risk assessments and reissue them for public comment once the revisions have been made.
