Environmental Protection Network Applauds Emergency Suspension of the Pesticide Dacthal

On Friday, August 2, 2024, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan signed an Emergency Suspension order for all products containing the pesticide Dacthal (DCPA). This is the first time in forty years that EPA has used this authority.

In response, William Jordan, former Deputy Director for Programs in the Office of Pesticide Programs and a volunteer with the Environmental Protection Network (EPN), released the following statement:

The Environmental Protection Network endorses the strong regulatory action taken by EPA to address the extraordinary risks to unborn children posed by the use of pesticides containing DCPA. EPA’s order immediately suspending all sales, distribution, and use of DCPA products is the only way to avoid the harm to children that would result from continued use of this dangerous pesticide. EPN recognizes all of the hard work necessary to reach and take this decision and thanks the dedicated civil servants at EPA for their efforts to protect America’s children.”

William Jordan is available to speak to the media about the Emergency Suspension and its effects on public health and the environment.
