The Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program

Through the Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmakers (Grantmakers) Program (EJ TCGM), EPA has selected 11 Grantmakers who receive $600 million to serve as pass-through entities nationwide. The 11 Grantmakers consist of regional selectees who will issue subgrants to communities in specific EPA Regions, as well as national selectees who will provide additional support, coordination, and oversight to the subgrantees, applicants, and the Regional Grantmakers themselves, and issue additional subgrants to fill gaps in the regions. Collectively, they will issue thousands of subgrants to community-based nonprofits and other eligible subrecipients for assessment, planning, and project development activities, with the goal of alleviating much of the burden that the federal grants process places on small, resource-constrained community-based organizations supporting underserved communities and marginalized populations.

In order to assist organizations apply to the Grantmaker Request for Proposals (RFPs), EPN has built two AI modules to extract key information from uploaded documents and the internet to create two stand-alone, editable documents that can be used as a basis for the Grantmakers opportunity. All uploaded and downloaded information is secure in a closed system and will not be made public without an organization’s explicit permission. In addition, the modules are housed on a platform where organizations will find instructions to sign in, create, edit, and save their drafts, along with an FAQ document. And you can watch a recorded training on EPN’s AI modules here. The modules include:

  • An Organizational Overview Generator, which compiles the organization’s mission statement, organization description, achievements, connection to underserved communities, programmatic capabilities, etc., and
  • A Grantmakers Proposal Template, which generates a first rough draft of a potential Grantmakers proposal that can then be edited for additions and modifications as required by the specific national or regional RFP.

Below, you will find a list of the Grantmakers who have released their RFPs along with links to their websites and additional information and resources.
