In September 2017, candidates for the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) were named. Although the nominating process was commendably transparent, two candidates have weak expertise for this particular assignment and another has a potential financial conflict of interest which might disqualify them from participating in key matters. While this is not technically a “regulatory rollback,” the advice of committee members affects the science and ultimately policy and rule making. EPN put forth this 2-page comment on the nominees, pointing out that only one candidate meets the statutory criteria for this role, namely being a Medical Doctor and a Member of the National Academy of Sciences.
