On March 20, 2020, EPN sent a letter to EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler requesting an extension of the public comment period for the proposed supplemental provisions to the 2018 censored science rule proposal. Given the uncertainty in all aspects of national life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and how that impacts our capacity to prepare and file comments, as well as the confusion and ambiguity created by the supplemental notice, EPN is requesting a 60-day extension of the 30-day comment period, which would begin 90 days after the danger from COVID-19 has been managed sufficiently, and at least three public meetings during that comment period. Comments would, therefore, be due 90 days after the danger has passed. This extra time and opportunity for discussion is needed to allow the public to prepare the most comprehensive comments possible on a rule that attempts to downplay science in public health and environmental decision-making.
