On March 9, 2022, EPN submitted comments on EPA’s proposal to extend the deadline for revised restricted use pesticides (RUPs) certification plans by two years to meet the updated federal standard. The extension would allow for proposed certification plan modifications to continue being reviewed and approved by EPA without interrupting certification programs or those who, under those programs, are certified to use RUPs. Rather than the proposed broad extension, EPN recommended granting extensions on a case-by-case basis, and only long enough to allow submission and approval of a revised plan that meets the new requirements of EPA’s 2017 rule amendments.
