On December 10, 2020, EPN submitted comments in response to EPA’s announcement that it was seeking public input on the supplemental analysis conducted under the reformed Toxic Substances Control Act to the draft risk evaluation for 1,4-dioxane, a solvent used mainly in the production of other chemicals. Risk evaluations are conducted to determine whether chemicals like 1,4-dioxane present unreasonable risks to people’s health, including potentially susceptible groups such as pregnant women, fetuses, and children or the environment. As in previous comments from July 19 and August 30, 2019, EPN urged EPA to adequately evaluate whether conditions of use present an unreasonable risk of cancer or noncancer effects, as well as to assess risks to the general population from contaminated drinking water supplies.
